Michael Wiens is a Canadian-born artist and a 2012 MFA Graduate from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, CA. In 2004, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting and Design from the University of Alberta, where he studied printmaking, painting and visual communications.
A desire to be immersed in the elementary art curriculum led him to complete a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta in 2009. In this same year, he received the 'Leadership Recognition Award' from the faculty of education, which honored his commitment to quality elementary instruction.
Under representation by Anne Thull Fine Art Designs, current paintings may be viewed at his home gallery in Carmel California. In 2016 Michael received the ‘Best in Show’ award at the Niagara Falls Art Gallery, and was invited back to feature under the ‘Contemporary Canadian’ exhibit for this year’s Canada’s 150th celebration.
In addition to instructing adult and children’s workshops at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Michael teaches art & technology programming at Hillfield Strathallan College and is a Professional Development art consultant for Junior and Middle Schools.
